- Grind the coffee beans: Use your burr grinder to achieve a medium-fine consistency, perfect for espresso.
- Measure and tamp: Weigh out your coffee grounds (remember, 14–20 grams for a double shot is ideal) and then firmly tamp them into your portafilter. This step helps ensure an even extraction.
- Pull the espresso shot: Now, use your espresso machine to pull either a single or a double shot, depending on how strong you like your Americano.
- Add hot water: Carefully pour hot water over your freshly pulled espresso. Most people prefer a ratio somewhere between 1:1 and 1:4 (espresso to water).
- Mix and serve: Give it a gentle stir to combine everything. At this point, you can also add a splash of milk if you like a creamier touch.
