Equipment

  • 1 Drip coffee maker or pour-over device (e.g., Chemex, V60)
  • 1 Paper filter
  • 1 Kettle (gooseneck recommended)
  • 1 Digital scale
  • 1 Large mug (8–12 oz)

Ingredients

  • 30 g medium-ground coffee
  • 480 ml filtered water (16 oz)

Instructions

Prepare the filter & water

  • Place a paper filter in your dripper or coffee machine. Rinse it with hot water to remove papery taste and preheat the brewer. Fill your reservoir or kettle with fresh, filtered water.

Add the coffee

  • Use a medium grind (similar to coarse sand). For best results, weigh out 30 g of coffee per 480 ml water. Add the grounds to your filter.

Start the brew process

  • Automatic machine: Close the lid and press start. The machine will heat the water and drip it through the coffee.
  • Manual pour-over: Bloom the grounds by pouring 60 g of hot water (~30–45 sec), then slowly pour the remaining water in circles over 2–4 minutes.

Serve the coffee

  • Once brewing finishes, remove the filter and discard the grounds. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your mug and enjoy.

Clean your equipment

  • Rinse and dry your filter basket, carafe, or dripper. Deep-clean monthly with vinegar or a coffee descaler.

Notes

  • Use water between 195–205°F (90–96°C) for optimal flavor extraction.
  • A 1:16 ratio of coffee to water creates a balanced, smooth cup.
  • For richer flavor, use freshly ground beans and brew immediately.
  • Manual brewing allows more control over timing and technique, while automatic drip machines offer convenience and consistency.
  • Customize your cup with milk, cream, or your favorite sweetener if desired.
