Homemade Coffee Extract Recipe

This homemade coffee extract is super easy to make and perfect if you love baking or mixing up coffee-flavored cocktails. It’s just two ingredients, keeps for up to a year, and adds that deep, rich coffee flavor to pretty much anything.

Equipment

  • 1 clean glass jar with lid
  • 1 mortar and pestle or spoon (to crack the beans)
  • 1 Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup vodka (or substitute rum for a sweeter note)
  • 1/2 to 1/4 cup whole coffee beans

Instructions
 

  • Gently crack or crush the coffee beans using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon.
  • Add the cracked beans to a clean glass jar.
  • Pour the vodka over the beans, making sure they’re fully submerged.
  • Seal the jar tightly and give it a good shake.
  • Store the jar in a cool, dark place and shake it once daily to help with infusion.
  • After 2 to 4 weeks, strain out the beans using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  • Transfer the extract to a clean jar or bottle.
  • Use as needed in recipes and enjoy the deep coffee flavor!

Notes

Store the extract for up to 1 year in a sealed jar kept in a cool, dry place.
